To recap the past few shows

Hello! Selamat Sejahtera!

I know it has been a long while since Poi-O last updated this site.. I'm not a fan of giving excuses but.. these past few weeks has been very hectic and busy until everything in life, including this site, had to be put on hold to cater to the hectic-ness. Please do accept our most sincere apologies.

Anyway! To recap back on what we have been doing since the last show / the last blog post..

The most significant show ever in our history, and I dare say in Malaysia's, or Malay's history... We put on a fire show for our friend's Akad Nikah!

Our climber friend, Nina, called us up one fine day with a request for us to perform at her Akad Nikah (legilasition of marriage). We were speechless and our jaws definitely dropped when we received the call. I mean c'mon! When was the last time you saw a fire show at a Malay wedding, much less at the Akad Nikah ceremony! Dare I say this is the first ever in the country? Please do correct me if I am wrong.

Unfortunately we do not have any pictures or videos of that performance. We were unprepared and did not bring cameras to record the show. There were a few people who took photos and videos but we don't know them so the photos and videos are to remain with them, and not to be shared with us..

Next came Urbanscapes! We have to thank our Sem-poi friends for putting this show together. It was quite last minute as everything was confirmed a few days before but nonetheless, a good show was brought forward by all parties involved. The lack of parking space indicated what a huge event it was. I don't know if it was the Law of Attraction working it's magic but we managed to get a parking spot just a few meters away from the main entrance. Good thing we took that parking because from that point onwards we didn't see any parking spots available!

We arrived in the late evening, before the moon came up. When we arrived Tugu Drum Circle was having their jam session so we immediately dropped our stuff and took out our sock pois and grooved along to their beats. It was definitely a crowd puller as there were many people taking photos of us swinging our pois. I guess the Urbanscapes 'hollywood' style thingy next to us was the major factor of the crowd puller. We didn't realise we were next to it! Honestly!

Soon after the whole ensemble arrived and we continued grooving to the the awesome beats by Tugu Drum Circle. From the distance one of us noticed a Poi spinner in the drum circle and we, without thinking twice, rushed into the drum circle and terrorised them with some Poi action! That turned out to be a good move as most of our audience for that night was from the drum circle. It was really fun to see so many people showing interest in poi. Obviously we didn't play fire when the sun was up as the effects wouldn't be as nice compared to when the sun's down. So before the night came we were swinging our sock pois and there were so many people interested in it and actually took the initiative to try it out! We had a mini poi workshop there!

When the sun had retired and the moon showed it's presence, that's when we started the fire show. We had to start the first show prematurely because the crowd had already gathered around and we didn't want to keep them waiting. The first wick was lighted and it created a chain reaction and soon after, we were all playing fire. We freestyled for a bit and then got into our routines. The first show was a blast, ending with an announcement for our second show about an hour later.

The second show was more organised and personally, I say it was the most awesome show ever held before. Everyone's routine was excellent bringing cheers from the crowd and smiles on the performers faces. Many people said they did not expect to see the fire show on that day, and were really glad to see it! Numbers and namecards exchanged so fingers crossed, we hope to have more shows in the future.

Straight after Urbanscapes we headed down to Palate Palette for Epic Tribe's Mistikal Vibes's party. We have been playing at Palate Palette and Epic Tribe's parties for so long until it has become somewhat like our playground to the point that we are mentioned in their flyers!

"Join the EPIC TRIBE, KL's explosive psychedelic community and PALATE PALETTE, KL's shining beacon of art and culture for a REAL psytrance experience you will never forget. Stacked with fire-dancers, mesmerising visuals, mind-warping ambience, and 100% PURE SHANTI."

Photos of all the events above will be posted up soon, either in the near or distant future, depending on when we are able to source out the time to do so. To top it all off, we just came back from Pavilion, Kuala Lumpur, witnessing a group of Fire Gurus putting on an excellent show. They mainly played with Fire Staff but! What made the show shine above the rest was their fire breathing and their huge amount of threshold against fire. There were times when they were rubbing the burning wick against their arms! And also putting it against their tounges! At one part of the show the wick of one of the staff came off, and the guy simply took the burning wick in his hands and moved it away from the crowd to avoid burning them. Crazy....

To sign off, I would like to say thank you to Nina for giving us the opportunity to play at her Akad Nikah (I'm still hoping that we are the first ever in the country to play fire at an Akad Nikah). A big thank you to Klue and Sem-poi for the biggest show in our lives so far. And last but not least, thank you to KLStompers for notifying us indirectly about the Mega Sale Launch and the fire show at Pavilion.
